Shifting Energy Through Interior Design
Have you ever wondered why people are drawn to visiting staged or model homes? Of course, they’re visually appealing—but there’s more to it than just aesthetics. One key reason is that the energy in these spaces feels clean and refreshing.
When people walk through these homes, they often think, “If I could recreate this space in my own home, it would feel just as amazing.” However, what they may not realize is that it’s not about copying someone else's design, but rather clearing and shifting energy intentionally. Interior design has the power to shift the energy of a space, creating an atmosphere that feels light, open, and inviting.
Our homes absorb the energy of the people and events that take place in them. Over time, this can leave a space feeling stagnant, heavy, or even “dark.” While you can shift the energy of your home without diving into major design projects (see my previous blog post here), small changes can make a big impact.
Simple updates—like painting the walls or laying down a new area rug—can have a profound effect on the energy of a space. I’ve shared in several blog posts how I shifted the energy in my own home after my divorce. When my ex-husband moved out, I spent the day repainting the bedroom and had a new mattress delivered so I could sleep in a space that no longer felt weighed down by the remnants of a failed marriage.
In the photos below, you can see the physical difference in my living room. On the right is how it looked during my marriage (with my adorable son making a silly face), where within a few years, the energy had become so heavy and stagnant that I dreaded spending time there. On the left is a corner of the living room years later—after intentional changes—where the space feels lighter, brighter, and more inviting.
